3 to 48 percent of the world's food in the year that passed

World Bank statistics show that the price of food in the world has increased from 3 to 48 percent in 2022 and wheat prices growth this year was 36 percent, chicken meat 48 percent and tea 24 percent.

 

The World Bank has released details of commodity prices in the global market during 2022, announcing the world's food prices during this year, so that among important foods only two rice and shrimp products have faced a slight price decline and the rest of the food has seen significant price growth this year.
 
The food price index rose to 143.7 points in 2022, according to which the average price of food in the global market increased by 18% during 2022. In 2021, the food price index also experienced a 31% growth from the previous year. Accordingly, over two years, the average price of food in the world has increased by 49%.
 
* Wheat became 71% expensive in 2 years
 
Cereals as one of the most consumed foods have faced 21% price growth in 2022. The grain price index has risen from 123.8 points in 2021 to 150.4 points this year.
 
Wheat has faced a 36% price in the global market, with the price of this important grain rising from $315.2 per tonne in 2021 to $430 per tonne during 2022. Wheat was also 35% expensive in 2021, according to which the total growth in wheat prices over two years was 71%.
 
Corn prices also grew 23 percent, rising from $259.5 per tonne during 2021 to $318.8 per tonne during 2022.
 
But rice has been met with a 4% drop in prices. Each ton of Thai rice traded at $429.7 per tonne in 2022. This was $448 per tonne in 2021.
 
*20% growth in soybean oil prices
 
Palm oil prices have increased by 13% over the past year, from $1,131 per tonne during 2021 to $1,276 per tonne during 2022. Soybean oil also grew by 20% and reached $1,667 per tonne.
 
*Tea became 24% expensive
 
Tea has experienced a 24% price in 2022. Each kilo of tea totaled $2.69 per kilo of tea in 2021, but that number has risen to $3.05 in 2022. The price per kilo of coffee also rose from $4.51 in 2021 to $5.63 in 2022, a 25 percent increase.
 
Sugar has become 5% expensive in the global market over the past year, reaching $0.41 per kilo.
 
*48% expensive chicken meat
 
Among the meat types, only shrimp has been faced with price cuts and other meats have become expensive. The price per kilo of chicken in the global market during 2022 has increased significantly to $48 and each kilo of chicken has reached $3.35 this year. A year earlier, each kilo of chicken was traded at $2.26.
 
The price per kilo of veal also rose 7 percent to $5.78. Mutton has also become 3% expensive, reaching $11.94 per kilo.
 
But shrimp prices dropped 2 percent last year, trading at $13.5 per kilo.
 
*23% increase in banana prices
 
Among fruits, bananas experienced a 23% price growth, with each kilo of bananas rising from $1.21 in 2021 to $1.49 during 2022. The price of oranges also grew significantly by 41 percent, while each kilo of oranges totaled $0.65 in 2021, rising to $0.92 last year.
